Milongas (dance parties)

-Abrazo, the Queer Milonga. Every 3rd Saturday of the month we gather to dance, prance and make merry.  Always a Beginner / fundamentals class at 7 pm.  Dancing and merrymaking to a rotation of great DJs 8-11 pm. No partner necessary. Workshops, Classes and Practicas

-Queer Tango Classes on Wednesdays in Oakland. No partner or experience needed–our Queer Tango series has Beginner and Intermediate level classes, and we go deep every Wednesday. Lake Merrritt Dance Center (Hall 2.) 200 Grand Ave. Oakland. Beginner/Fundementals class 7:15 -8:15  with Jonas Aquino. Intermediate class 8:15-9:15 with a rotation of great teachers. Gay Games Team Tango PracticaSundays, 3:30-5:30, Finnish Hall, 1970 Chestnut St. Berkeley. Anyone who wants to come to practice is welcome!  **You do not have to be a participant of the Gay Games–this practica is open to all** Maya, Auriel and Winter available to answer questions, coach and encourage. Festivals, Performances, Competitions, Queer Tango Communities around the globe: the new miscellaneous section

–  “TANGO MAGIC…the spell is cast! Friday February 14th- Sunday February 16th. A student production directed by Debbie Goodwin including our very own queer tango dancers, Mitch and Sammie! Tango Magic explores the magical moments of the dance. That unspoken connection between partners, the music and the movement. Discover how tango touches lives and has the power to transform them. Gay Games 9 in 2014! Oh tango peeps, for the first time ever, the Gay Games will include a graded competition in Argentine Tango—yup, we can dance/compete just as the ballroom dancers have been doing for years! What are the Gay Gamess—it’s an international same-sex competition that attracts amazing dancers from all over the world, and this year it’s happening in Cleveland, Ohio. This is a wonderful change to promote queer tango to an international community while dancing the dance we love, tango! Want more info, talk with Barbara, Winter, Auriel or Maya. -April Follies 2014: The largest same-sex dance competition in North America has an expanded Argentine Tango section. It’s a great weekend of dance, competition and performance–really there is something special about being in a room with same-sex dancers from all over the US and the world. Each year the tango section gets bigger and bigger and it’s  a wonderful way to show the larger dance community what queer tango looks like! Check out the details HERE. Save the date: April 26th.

Queer Tango in Seattle: yup, our sibling city is rocking with queer tango classes, a queer milonga every 4th Friday, and a wonderful group of dancers. Berlin International Queer Tango Festival. This amazing festival welcomes amazing national & international teachers and performers, offers wonderful workshops, alternative classes and attacks queer tango dancers from around the world. It is truly something to behold. Mark your calendars–it happens every year at the end of July. Check HERE for updates.

-World Wide Queer Tango Festivals: From Buenos Aires to Montreal to Sweden to Berlin, Queer Tango Festivals are a wonderful way to meet and dance with queer tango enthusiast from around the world. Check out this facebook group for a list of world wide queer tango festivals!

Queer Tango Paris: Paris is a wonderful place to dance with a growing community lead by two really wonderful queer tango dancers and teachers, Mune and Miranda. Yes, jump the pond and go dance in Paris.

Queer Tango London: Yes, yes yes, London is dancing: classes, milongas and an upcoming festival!

-Queer Tango Stockholm: Stockholm has a great community of dancers and a yearly International Queer Tango Festival in the Spring!

-Tango Follower’s Extreme with Luz Castineiras on Tuessdays in Oakland. Yep, Luz who has taught several queer tango classes, has a great class 7:30-9 for follower’s technique AND a practica 9-11:15 with great music.
