Everything we know about about Queer Tango–in the SF Bay Area (and a bit beyond)

Milongas (dance parties)

-Abrazo, the Queer Milonga Every 3rd Saturday of the month we gather to dance, prance and make merry. Always a Beginner / fundamentals class 7 – 8 pm. Dancing and merrymaking to a rotation of great DJs:  8-11 pm. No partner necessary. Every kindred under the sun is welcome. $15 general, $7 Students with ID, $10 Never been to a tango dance special. Questions: abrazoqueertango@gmail.com.

Super Queer Friendly Tango classes, practicas, milongas and tango retreats:

Milonga La Paz in SF on Thursdays with our very own Miranda Pez teaching the 7-8 pm pre-milonga class. DJ Mungai plays traditional tango music 8-11 pm. “The class will have the theme “Traditional tango for the social dance floor” and it’s an all level class.
Participants of all genders dancing one or both roles welcome! All classes taught by Miranda are welcoming spaces for the LGBT community.” War Memorial Veterans Building, room 212. 301 Van Ness Ave. San Francisco.

-Tango Classes and Practica with Jonas, aka Mr. Wonderful. Check tango mango and  HERE. Special Discount: For queer tango students, you can have 1/2 off your FIRST  class or practica with Jonas.

Allegro Ballroom: A GREAT place to practice whenever you want. $10 bucks for the whole day (or $10 per hour with a teacher). Bring a partner, some music, pick a room and tango away! Tuesday Night Tango in Palo Alto.  South Bay peeps are covered! Progressive monthly series with Leslie Gordon every Tuesday: www.tntango.com. In these classes, everyone learns both roles.  This class is assisted by a lovely queer tango dancer, Rich. All are welcome.

-Tuesday Intermediate lass and Practica with David Orly-Thompson at Finnish Hall: 1970 Chestnut st. in Berekely. 8-10 class. 10-11 practica. $15. A great deal for 3 hours of tango with a great teachers.

-TangoMujer:: Retreats for Women: “Be both a leader and a follower.” Two enormously talented women of tango, and founders of TangoMujer (the first all-women’s dance company in the world), Brigitta Winkler and Sharna Fabiano, offer week-long tango retreats for women to learn both roles in exquisite natural environments: Oregon – Nov. 19-22, 2015, Maui – March 6-13, 2016, Vermont – June 2-5, 2016, Tuscany – June 2016.
